Abbey Central Wins Residential Development of the Year

MRPA 2025 WINNER

Stagfield Group is thrilled to share that Abbey Central, our flagship joint development with Peveril Homes, has been named ‘Residential Development of the Year, under 100 plots’ at the prestigious Midlands Residential Property Awards.

The ceremony, held on Wednesday 25 June at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham, brought together the very best of the region’s residential property sector to recognise innovation, quality, and excellence across the industry.

Located on the former Rushcliffe Borough Council Recycling Depot in West Bridgford, Nottingham, Abbey Central is a transformational development that has turned brownfield land into a vibrant, sustainable community. This visionary scheme delivers 71 high-quality new homes—including 21 much-needed affordable homes—and sets a new benchmark for low-carbon, family-friendly urban living.

From the outset, both Stagfield and Peveril Homes worked closely with the Council on its vision to deliver a neighbourhood that prioritises sustainability, biodiversity and architectural design. As one of the largest No-Gas developments in the region, Abbey Central features Air Source Heat Pumps, Solar PV panels and EV charging points throughout. Some homes are achieving up to 80% reductions in CO2 emissions and energy use compared to current building regulations—far surpassing the industry benchmark of 19%.

Designed to exceed national space standards, the development offers a range of tenures and housing types, including terraces, apartments, and linked homes, ensuring inclusive and future-proofed living for all.

Recognised as a blueprint for Net Zero development within the region, Abbey Central has been highlighted in Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Low Carbon and Sustainable Design Planning Document and is setting the standard for the future of sustainable housebuilding in the Midlands.

Since its launch in April 2024, the development has enjoyed tremendous success—achieving rapid sales, full occupation of key house types, and widespread acclaim for its pioneering approach to gas-free living.

Leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council Cllr Neil Clarke said: “We’re exceptionally pleased for this recognition of an exemplar site highlighting how you can think differently, be environmentally friendly and keep within our 30% affordable housing goal. We hope this inspires fellow partners and developers to provide even more energy efficient affordable new homes that can make future generations proud of the places they call home. When the Council sold the land we really wanted to raise the bar and show developers what can be achieved. Transforming this brownfield site in the heart of one of our towns into such a flagship development is testament to all the partners’ aspirations and dedication to bring its vision to life.”

Kevin Hard, Managing Director of Stagfield, said: “We’re incredibly proud to receive this award, which recognises the shared vision, collaboration, challenges and commitment that went into delivering Abbey Central. This isn’t just a housing development—it’s a statement about what’s possible when a knowledgeable team prioritise sustainability, community and innovation, and work in partnership together. A huge thank you to our partners at Peveril Homes, Rushcliffe Borough Council, and everyone who helped bring Abbey Central to life.”

Stuart Brookes, Director of Sales and Marketing, at Peveril Homes added “We’re absolutely delighted that Abbey Central has been recognised as ‘Residential Development of the Year’. This award is a testament to what can be achieved through strong collaboration, shared values, and a clear vision for the future of sustainable living. Working alongside Stagfield has been a pleasure — from day one, our joint focus has been on creating a high-quality, energy-efficient community that delivers real, lasting value for residents and the wider West Bridgford area.
